RANGERS have completed the £4million signing of Liverpool defender Ben Davies on a four-year contract, a move  Scotzine revealed at the weekend.

The centre-back, who will celebrate his 27th birthday next month, becomes Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s sixth new addition in a hectic summer transfer window that has also seen Joe Aribo leave for Southampton in a £10million switch with Calvin Bassey on the brink of a £21million move to Ajax.

Davies, speaking to Sky Sports News, said: “I am very excited to join Rangers and I am really looking forward to taking this next step in my career.

“It’s a huge club with big ambitions and I can’t wait to get started.”

Davies didn’t make a solitary first-team appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side after arriving in a £1.6million deal from Deepdale in February last year.

Ibrox gaffer Van Bronckhorst added: “I would like to welcome Ben to our squad and I am delighted he has joined the club. He is a strong defender with great qualities and will further add to our options in that area.”

Davies, who was close to signing for Celtic in January last year, spent eight years at Preston with time on loan at York City, Tranmere Rovers, Southport, Newport County, and Fleetwood Town before joining the Anfield club.

Last season he was on loan at Sheffield United and played 23 times in the Championship.
