CONNOR GOLDSON will be available for Rangers against Lyon in the opening Europa League group encounter at Ibrox this evening.

The central defender could be called in immediately by gaffer Steven Gerrard after his Covid isolation.

But the Gers boss will be without Filip Helander for the “foreseeable” future after the Swede was forced to undergo surgery over the last couple of days.

Goldson missed Saturday’s 2-1 win over St Johnstone in Perth after being forced to self-isolate while his team-mate was stretchered off in the second half.

That led to worries that Gerrard would only have Leon Balogun as a fit and available centre-back for the visit of the French side who will be without ex-Celt Moussa Dembele who has been left at home with an injury.

The Ibrox outfit are also looking to get Ianis Hagi back. The Romanian midfielder tested positive for Covid while on international duty and is currently in his home country.

Gerrard, speaking to the Daily Record, confirmed: “Filip Helander will be missing, he has had surgery in the last 48 hours and will be missing for the foreseeable future.

“Connor Goldson comes back and is available, I am confident we have cover and will manage despite being disappointed Filip is missing.

“We are having discussions to get Ianis Hagi back as soon as possible.

“Allan McGregor is available for selection, he is fit and good to go.”
