PARTICK THISTLE have made a quickfire return to the Championship with their runaway 5-0 triumph over Falkirk at Firhill last night.

The Maryhill side were demoted last season in the midst of the coronavirus controversy when the leagues were cut short following the lockdown in March.

The Jags dropped into the third tier despite being just two points from safety with a game in hand.

They came up with the perfect response with their consistent displays in this campaign and capped it with the demolition of the visitors with goals from Brian Graham (2), Zak Rudden, Scott Tiffoney and Joe Cardle.

A delighted Ian McCall has seen his side seal the League One title with a game to spare. Gary Holt’s Bairns now sit behind Paul Hartley’s second-placed Cove Rangers.

Last year both Hearts and Thistle launched a legal challenge to battle the SPFL after they were sent down from their divisions.

Coincidentally, the Tynecastle outfit rubber-stamped their return to the top flight after their promotion earlier this month.
