SCOTLAND boss Steve Clarke has been hit by the news Sheffield United’s John Fleck will miss between four and six weeks with a back injury.

The midfielder will almost certainly be ruled out of the crucial Europa Championship play-off final against Serbia in Belgrade on November 12.

Fleck must also be considered a doubt for the Nations League game away to Slovakia three days later and also the tie in Israel in the same competition.

United gaffer Chris Wilder told Sky Sports News: “John was down to play at the weekend, it’s another unfortunate injury. He suffered one of those injuries you don’t get 99 times out of 100.

“Speaking to the medical people, how unfortunate he was to land on such a small place on his back to do the damage that he has done is so unlucky.

“It will be four to six weeks and it’s another blow that we have to take on the chin.”

Fleck’s fellow-Scot Oliver Burke, on loan at the Yorkshire club from West Brom, also missed the 1-1 draw with Fulham and he, too, could be a problem for Clarke as he puts his squad together for next month’s vital encounters.
