ABERDEEN were dumped out of Europe in the third qualifying round for the second year in a row after losing 1-0 to Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese capital.
Derek McInnes, without Scotland international centre-back Scott McKenna who was sold to Nottingham Forest in midweek, watched his side topple into oblivion following a strike by Tiago Tomas.
Only seven minutes had gone when the 18-year-old striker beat Joe Lewis with an excellent finish just inside the area for his first goal for the club.
The visitors responded strongly and Ash Taylor saw a header saved before a fine Jonny Hayes run ended with a weak shot.
Ross McCrorie made a lung-busting run on the half-hour mark which was ended by Luviano Vietto, who received a yellow card for the cynical foul.
Hayes latched on to a loose pass in 62 minutes and blazed over from a promising position. It was the Pittodrie side’s last chance to salvage something from the tie against very good opponents.
The Dons are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Dingwall to take on Ross County with a 3pm kick-off.
