RANGERS have rejected a £16.25million bid from Lille for Alfredo Morelos.
The French club are now considering concluding their interest in the controversial Colombian international, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
They have grown frustrated at being unable to settle on a fee with the Ibrox club while reports in France insist they have agreed personal terms with last season’s 29-goal hitman.
Morelos has been the subject of four offers in the last six weeks, but it appears Steven Gerrard and the Gers hierarchy are holding out for their original valuation of £20million.
Lille have now entered advanced talks with Belgian club Gent over a £30million move for Canadian international attack-leader Jonathan David after selling Victor Osimhen to Napoli for £55million.
Gerrard spent a reported £8.5million in bringng in strike duo Kemar Roofe, from Anderlecht, and St Gallen’s Cedric Itten. It was believed he was preparing for the transfer of 24-year-old Morelos.
Following Thursday’s 4-1 Europa League exit to Bayer Leverkusen, the Govan boss said: “Everyone knows he has had his head turned, there is no denying that.”
Swiss international Itten is in line to make his debut against St Mirren in Glasgow tomorrow afternoon. He is fit and raring to go after scoring four goals in his side’s 7-0 win over Neuchatel Xamax in the final league game of the season eight days ago.
Roofe, though, has not featured since injuring a calf muscle while playing for the Belgians in December.
Gerrard may also have to hand goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin a competitive debut with Allan McGregor struggling after the 1-0 second leg defeat in Germany to topple out of Europe.
