KRISTOFFER AJER has emerged as a shock transfer target for newly-promoted West Borm, according to reports.

Celtic’s Norwegian international centre-back, who has not started the last two games against KR Reykjavik and Dundee United, is wanted by the Hawthorns side as they prepare for their return to the top flight.

Slaven Bilic, the Midlands club’s boss, has shown an interest in the 22-year-old utility player, according to The Athletic.

Coincidentally, West Brom have also been linked with Republic of Ireland international centre-half Shane Duffy who is on Neil Lennon’s wanted list. The Hoops gaffer has already confirmed he has had talks with the 28-year-old Brighton defender, who is also wanted by West Ham.

The nine-in-a-row champions have Ajer under contract for another two years and have no intention of allowing the player to go for a bargain fee.

And it is highly unlikely the Parkhead side, who face Ferencvaros in the Champions League second round qualifier in Glasgow tonight, would be interested in a swap deal plus cash for the skyscraper back-four operator.

Scotland international forward Oliver Burke, who had a six-month loan spell at the Hoops last season, has been mentioned as a makweight in any possible deal, but that is unlikely to tempt the Scotland title kings.

Ronny Deila signed Ajer from IK Start in 2016 and was also watched last season by Serie A giants AC Milan.
