RANGERS are pondering a move for South African international midfielder Bongani Zungu who is poised to quit relegated French Ligue 1 side Amiens.

Steven Gerrard is likely to make his decision within the next 48 hours as he prepares his squad for the Premiership kick-off against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon.

Twenty-seven-year-old Zungu has already rejected the opportunity to go to Spain in his hopes to land a switch to Ibrox, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

Gerrard has been told Gers will have to fork out around £3.5million for the player.

Gary McAllister, the Ibrox No.1, has already confirmed the club’s interest in the player.

He said: “We know who Zungu is, but our recruitment in bringing players to the club is ongoing.

“We’ve been speaking about hordes of players since lockdown.

“We are constantly on the lookout for players who can come into our team and make it better.”
