RANGERS misfit Brandon Barker will be given another opportunity to impress boss Steven Gerrard.

However, the Ibrox boss, who brought in the player on high wages from Manchester City last summer, has told him he MUST improve if he is to play a part in his first-team plans.

Barker rarely featured in Gerrard’s side last season, but looked lively in the 2-0 victory over Lyon during the club’s short trip against the channel last week.

Gerrard, speaking to the Scottish Sun, admitted: “Brandon has come back in an okay place, but I think the other night was the first time we saw the reason why we brought him in.

“When he plays to his full potential, he can be unplayable — and you saw that against Lyon.

“But a few cameos in the time he has been here is not enough and he knows that.

“We have put the challenge to him and now the ball’s in his court.

“If he repeats that on a regular basis, he is more than welcome to stay around and help us.”

Unfortunately, the Englishman sustained a knock in France and Gerrard added: “Brandon picked up an injury and we’ll get it checked out when we get home today.

“He is a lot better than he was on Friday, but we are still a bit concerned about it.”
