CELTIC reject Youssouf Mulumbu is on trial with English Championship outfit Birmingham City.
The 33-year-old midfield misfit, who was signed on a two-year deal by ex-boss Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2018 after leaving Kilmarnock at the end of his short-term contract, made only three appearances for the champions.
He returned to the Ayrshire side on loan, but Neil Lennon released the former DR Congo international at the end of the treble treble term at the same time £1.3million German flop Martin Compper was released early.
Mulumbu, who made 200 appearances in six years with Birmingham’s Midlands rivals West Brom, played for the club’s Under-23 side against Crewe this afternoon as he attempted to clinch a deal after being without a club for eight months.
He had been linked with a return to Rugby Park last month, but there appeared to be a communication breakdown with James Fowler, the club’s head of football operations, admitting to Killie TV: “I think there was some contact and then I think he just disappeared off the face of the earth.”
BORNA BARISIC’S agent has claimed Rangers will sell the Croatian left-back in the summer.
The defender signed a new four-year deal with the Ibrox outfit in January in the midst of some alleged interest elsewhere.
But his agent, Ives Cakarun, still believes the club will cash in on his client at the end of the campaign and has predicted Barisic will be on his way.
He said in a Daily Record report: “Rangers won’t be able to keep Borna after the season he’s had, even though he’s just signed a new contract.
“Borna’s priority right now is Rangers, who have made significant progress this season under the management of Steven Gerrard.
“There was interest in him during the winter transfer window – the strongest came from Napoli, but Rangers turned down all offers because they wanted to keep one of their best players.”
He added: “But after the season is over and given the demand for Borna, Rangers are sure to start considering new offers.
“His performances this season have opened up a whole, new horizon for him.”
DANIEL STURRIDGE, the former Liverpool striker who was linked with Steven Gerrard and Rangers in the summer, has had his contract mutually terminated at Trabzonspor.
The 30-year-old ex-England international joined the Turkish outfit in July on a three-year deal following his release from the Anfield side and has scored seven goals in 13 appearances.
Trabzonspor confirmed the player had quit the club and the news sparked speculation that Gerrard may again show an interest in the frontman, especially in light of the controversy surrounding Alfredo Morelos who was axed from the matchday squad for the 1-0 Scottish Cup defeat against Hearts on Saturday night after going AWOL.
Sturridge started his career at Manchester City before having spells with Chelsea, Bolton, Liverpool and West Brom.
During his six-and-a-half season spell on Merseyside, he claimed 67 goals in 160 appearances and also collected eight strikes for his nation in 28 outings.
