ASTON VILLA boss Dean Smith has refused to speak about the Midlands club’s reported link with Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

The Premier League club’s gaffer praised the Colombian for his strike in the 2-0 Europa League Group win over Porto at Ibrox a fortnight ago – but clammed up when talk of a swoop for the frontman was mentioned.

Smith, in a report in the Daily Record, said: “I certainly saw his goal. It was a very good finish.

“He’s a player who is contracted to another football club and we aren’t a club that talks about them.”

However, there is NO chance of Villa following up any supposed interest if the asking price is around the £20million mark which has been quoted for the firebrand frontman.

Morelos has claimed 22 goals this season and netted a debut strike for his nation last week..

Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard has insisted there will be no January sale of the prolific attacker and said: “I’m not confident, I’m sure, I’m 100 per cent sure he’s not going anywhere.”
