ALFREDO MORELOS took his goal tally for the campaign to an impressive 20 with a double strike in the 3-0 hammering of Hearts in the Betfred League Cup semi-final.

It was a one-sided affair at Hampden as Steven Gerrard’s side booked a place in the Final against Celtic, who overcame the other half of Edinburgh, Hibs, 5-2 in their last-four encounter.

The result was never in any doubt yesterday, but it took until a minute into stoppage-time before the Gers made the breakthrough with a simple goal from Filip Helander after the Tynecastle defence went to sleep at a deadball effort.

Morelos then piled on the misery with two more in the second-half as Gerrard’s men made certain of an intriguing Glasgow derby on Sunday, December 8.

After five successive semi-final defeats without scoring a goal, Rangers have finally taken a defining step forward and the Ibrox gaffer was delighted.

Gerrard, speaking to Sky Sports, said: “I think as far as I’m concerned and Alfredo’s concerned, we just need to work towards 21 goals. I’m sure secretly he will have his own targets which I know all forwards do.

“He’s in great form, he’s smiling and he’s happy and he’s producing for his team. He’s contributing heavily and that’s the reason we are so happy to have him.

“I’m delighted to get through, I thought the performance was very strong. I don’t think anyone can say we don’t deserve to be in the Final.

“The Final will be quite an occasion. There will be plenty of time to speak about it and who it’s against. But on this occasion it is all about Rangers and us performing ever so well and the lads should enjoy it.”
