RANGERS double-act Steven Gerrard and Alfredo Morelos have picked up the honours for the Premiership Manager and Player of the Month for September.

The team boss led his side to three league wins after their initial 2-0 loss to Celtic at the start of the month. The club scored 12 goals and conceded just one in the process.

The Ibrox outfit have now moved two points clear of Neil Lennon’s champions who have dropped five out of possible six points with a 1-1 draw against Hibs at Easter Road and a 2-0 loss against Livingston in West Lothian.

Gerrard, who is now preparing his players for the league encounter against Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday, told Sky Sports News: “It’s a collective effort.

“We, as staff, can’t receive these awards unless the players are doing the job on the pitch and the players have been fantastic the majority of this season. I suppose we have got to give a big thank you to the players.”

Colombian hitman Morelos has now scored 14 goals in all competitions this season.

Gerrard added: “He deserves it. I am always pleased to see my players getting individual accolades.

“Of course, it is always nice for them from a personal point of view, but the important thing for us all is we keep pushing hard and try and achieve things collectively because that is the main part of our job.

“Huge congratulations to Alfredo, I think he has been in fine form. He is enjoying his football, he is looking deadly in the penalty area. So is Jermain, which is a perfect position for me to be in as a manager.”
