PENALTY ROW AS UNITED SET UP FINAL

0

NICKY CLARK fired in a controversial penalty-kick as Dundee United beat Inverness Caley Thistle 3-0 at Tannadice last night to clinch a Premiership Play-Off Final against Hamilton Accies or St Mirren.

The former Rangers and Dunfermline hitman thumped in the spot-kick in first-half stoppage-time after Brad McKay had been harshly penalised for handball by referee Kevin Clancy.

Caley boss John Robertson was sent to the stand at half-time after making his feelings clear and Osman Sow netted his first goal for United 10 minutes after the restart before Pavol Safranko scored late on to seal a 4-0 aggregate win.

United will now host either Accies or the Paisley Saints on Thursday night in the first leg.

The flashpoint incident arrived when Peter Pawlett’s shot was blocked by the foot of McKay, but the ball spun up off the defender’s arm and Clancy pointed to the spot.

Clark faced a delay amid the protests before slotting home.
