GARY HOOPER could be in line for a sensational comeback to Celtic – if Neil Lennon is named full-time manager in the summer.

The 31-year-old striker has been released by Sheffield Wednesday after three-and-a-half seasons at the Hillsborough outfit.

And the frontman, who cost £2.4million when Lennon signed him from Scunthorpe in July 2010, is now back on the Irishman’s wishlist, according to a report in the Sun.

Hooper scored 63 goals in 95 league games and became a firm favourite with the fans. His scoring rate was noted by ex-Norwich City boss Alex Neil who took him to Carrow Road in a £5million switch in July 2013.

The goals dried up in East Anglia for the chunky Englishman and he agreed a £2.5million move to Wednesday in January 2016.

Hooper missed more than year of action with the Owls before returning in March, but boss Steve Bruce has allowed him to move on and the end of his contract.
