DEREK McINNES has admitted Swansea have sounded out Aberdeen about centre-back Scott McKenna.

The Welsh club are on the verge of selling defender Alfie Mawson to Fulham for a reported £20million and view the Scotland international as a perfect replacement.

Dons boss McInnes told the Championship side they would only consider allowing McKenna leave for a “way over the top” fee.

He said: “Not an official approach, we’ve had a conversation with Swansea. They asked about Scott’s availability and that was it.

“I don’t expect them to make an offer, if they do it’s not something we’d be encouraging.

“We’re not saying he’s not for sale, but any offer for McKenna will have to be way over the top, whether that’s this window, next window, whatever.”

The 21-year-old defender. recently capped by Alex McLeish, will be in the heart of the rearguard when the Pittodrie men take on Burnley in the Europa League at Turf Moor tonight after the first leg finished in a 1-1 stalemate.

* RANGERS gaffer Steven Gerrard would not be drawn on his club’s pursuit of ex-player Kyle Lafferty after Hearts knocked back a £200,000 offer last week.

However, the Ibrox gaffer admitted: “We still want to add a few targets to the group, but I won’t be mentioning names or players who belong to different football clubs. I don’t think that is right.

“We haven’t got much time left and every manager out there is in a rush. But at the same time, we won’t make rushed decisions.
“If the right person is not out there or the deal is not right or we can’t get it over the line, that’s just the way it is. We have to make sure the right people are coming in the door.”

* HIBS boss Neil Lennon has confirmed he is close to signing Manchester City winger Thomas Agyepong on a season-long loan.

The Ghana international, 21, is poised to seal the deal within the next 24 hours and the Easter Road gaffer said: “He’s had his medical and we are just waiting for the paperwork. He’s very similar to Brandon Barker — good with both feet, quick, with a good end product.”

* ST MIRREN boss Alan Stubbs has put the brakes on a deal for former Motherwell and Hibs winger Chris Humphrey.

The 30-year-old former Jamaican international had been training with the Paisley side in the hope of winning a contract, but the club’s new manager has decided not pursue it further and admitted he needs players who can hit the ground running with the Premiership season kicking off at the weekend.
