MARTYN WAGHORN, who quit Rangers in a £250,000 move to Ipswich a year ago, is poised for a remarkable £7million switch to Middlesbrough.

Derby County’s new boss Frank Lampard has also been linked with the Ibrox flop, but it looks as though Boro gaffer Tony Pulis is now favourite to land the Englishman.

Boro have just sold Patrick Bamford to Leeds United and the Riverside outfit view Waghorn, who claimed 16 goals last season, as the ideal replacement.

The 28-year-old hitman was signed by ex-Ibrox boss Mark Warburton from Wigan in 2015, but his successor Pedro Caixinha sold him to Mick McCarthy at Portman Road after bringing in Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers will receive a percentage of the transfer profit if the deal goes through.

* FRASER FORSTER, the former Celtic keeper, is set to leave Southampton for Burnley.

The 30-year-old former England international No.1, who quit the Hoops in a £10million deal in August 2014, has dropped to third in the pecking order under new Saints boss Mark Hughes.

Angus Gunn, just signed for £13.5million from Manchester City, and Alex McCarthy are ahead of him and Forster could join Aberdeen’s Europa League opponents this week.

Turf Moor gaffer Sean Dyche has a keeper crisis with Nicky Pope, Tom Heaton and Anders Lindegaard all injured.

* FABIO CARDOSO, who had his Rangers contract ripped up yesterday, has joined Santa Clara.

The central defender, 24, agreed a four-year deal with the Portuguese top-flight club.

Pedro Caixinha paid £1.5million when he bought his fellow-countryman from Vitoria Setubal last summer.

However, he made only 18 appearances for the Ibrox outfit who agreed a deal to release the player from his contract 24 hours ago.

His last first team outing came in the 3-2 defeat from Celtic at Ibrox in March.

* BARRIE McKAY, who joined Nottingham Forest from Rangers in a £500,000 switch last summer, is closing in on a move to Swansea.

The winger, 23, was signed for the City Ground outfit by his ex-Ibrox boss Mark Warburton, but he was sacked just before the turn of the year and the Under-21 star lost his first team place. The deal could be pushed through within the next 48 hours.

* DARREN YOUNG, the East Fife boss, has targeted signing at least one of four young Hearts strikers, Dario Zanatta, Aidan Keena, Rory Currie and Euan Henderson.
