GERS FLOP DOCHERTY IS BLACK CATS TARGET

0

RANGERS boss Steven Gerrard will allow Greg Docherty to leave Ibrox on loan – and the ex-Hamilton Accies star is a target for Sunderland.

The 21-year-old midfielder made a substitute appearance in the friendly win over Bury, but didn’t feature in either leg of the Europa League clash with FK Shkupi.

Former St Mirren manager Jack Ross wants the player to team up with Dylan McGeouch, his recent recruit from Hibs, as he attempts to lead the Black Cats out of League One after last season’s relegation from the Championship.

Docherty, who joined the Gers in January on a four-and-a-half year deal, made 11 appearances for caretaker gaffer Graeme Murty.

* HARRY FORRESTER has confirmed his switch to Iranian side Tractor Sazi – a day after his Rangers contract was scrapped, as reported in Scotzine yesterday.

The English midfielder scored eight goals in 44 appearances for the Ibrox side after being signed by ex-boss Mark Warburton from Doncaster Rovers in January 2016,  but spent last season on loan at League One side AFC Wimbledon.

* FORMER Celtic striker Anthony Stokes, on the look-out for a new team after being released by Greek outfit Apollon Smymi in February, has also moved to the Iranian side, managed by Welsh legend John Toshack.

Alan Stubbs had been keen on taking his ex-Hibs striker to St Mirren while Shamrock Rovers attempted to lure the Republic of Ireland frontman back to Dublin.

* HEARTS have completed the signing of keeper Colin Doyle following his release from Bradford City.

The Republic of Ireland shotstopper has agreed a two-year deal to become the 13th new arrival at Tynecastle. Craig Levein had been on the look-out for a new No 1 after John McLaughlin moved to Sunderland. Doyle joins Czech Zdenek Zlamal and American Kevin Silva as the third edition to the club’s goalkeeping quota.

* FORMER Aberdeen loan keeper Danny Ward is poised to agree a £12million move from Liverpool to Leictester City. The Welshman, who was at Pittodrie in 2015/16, will be allowed to quit Anfield following Jurgen Klopp’s world-record £65million signing of Brazilian No.1 Alisson, from Roma.
