MORGAN LEADS ECK’S YOUNG TEAM

NEW Celtic winger Lewis Morgan and defenders John Souttar (Hearts) and Lewis Stevenston (Hibs) have been called up Scotland for the first time.

International boss Alex McLeish made the surprise inclusions in his 24-man squad for the trip to play Peru and Mexico.

The other four uncapped players are goalkeepers Jon McLaughlin, of Hearts, and Millwall’s Jordan Archer and midfielders Graeme Shinnie, of Aberdeen, and Hibs’ Dylan McGeouch.

Manchester United star Scott McTominay has also been included after making his international debut in March.

Ryan Christie, Stuart Armstrong, Jack Hendry and Morgan are the only Parkhead players included after Alex McLeish and his backroom team considered who would benefit from a rest.

Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths have been rested from the pool.

McLeish said: “I’m really excited to work with the players included. They have all been guys who have been in really good form for their clubs.

“I love to see young players getting a chance and Lewis Morgan is certainly someone who has emerged.

“I’ve had a lot of feedback from people who have worked with him and he’s really dynamic. We need to start encouraging that level of talent.”

The Scots will face Peru in Lima on May 29 and Mexico at the Azteca Stadium on June 2.
