‘I KNEW IT WAS A GOAL RIGHT AWAY,’ McGREGOR

0

CALLUM McGREGOR is enjoying being a striking success at Celtic this season.

The Scotland international midfielder rifled in the opening goal in the 2-0 Scottish Cup Final victory over Motherwell yesterday.

It was a sizzling right-foot half-volley that thundered beyond the helpless Trevor Carson for an effort that was befitting a Hampden spectacle in the sunshine.

And McGregor, who also thumped in a wonderful effort against Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League earlier in the season, said: “It is probably the best one in terms of magnitude of the game and what was at stake.

“I caught it sweet and it went in off the side of the post.

“It is an amazing feeling to contribute like that in a big game and help the team win.

“I knew it was going in as soon as I made contact with the ball. I felt it straight away.

“It is still a bit raw in terms of the magnitude of what we have done.

“It feels good to have won the Cup and the treble again, but we know this is bigger than that.”
