BUNDESLIGA outfit Hoffenheim have entered the race for Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba, who has been linked with Celtic.

The Hoops are reportedly interested in the 23-year old, but Belgian duo Anderlecht, his former club, and Standard Liege are also monitoring the DR Congo international’s situation.

Hoffenheim, who will represent Germany in the Champions League group stages along with Bayern Munich, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund, are looking to strengthen their squad for the new campaign.

Mbemba, who made only 11 appearances during the season, has fallen out of favour with St James’s Park boss Rafa Benitez.

The Spanish gaffer has favoured Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark in his centre-back position.
