HIBS midfielder Dylan McGeouch has been forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad for the friendlies against Costa Rica and Hungary.

The Easter Road star had hoped to make his international breakthrough after getting the call-up from returning boss Alex McLeish.

Unfortunately, the ex-Celt has a groin injury and will miss the opportunity of facing Costa Rica at Hampden on Friday and the Hungarians in Budapest a week tonight.

McGeouch joined up with the squad yesterday and took part in a fitness session in an attempt to prove himself fit, having suffered the injury in training last week.

Coach James McFadden said: “Dylan McGeouch deserves to be here, so it is not a case of it being his last chance.

“There will be other chances for him.”
