SCOTLAND have added Matt Ritchie to their injury list ahead of the crucial doubleheader against Slovakia and Slovenia this week.
Gordon Strachan’s men are without captain Scott Brown and midfield counterpart Stuart Armstrong after the pair picked up injuries during the Hoops Euro victory during the week.
Ritchie, who was Sky Sports Man of the Match in Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool today, has withdrawn from the side. However, a withdrawal at this stage would suggest an injury concern that Magpies boss Rafa Benitez would rather is treated than risked on International duty.
Strachan did eventually call Calum McGregor up to the squad after his brace against Hibs on Saturday made his case too strong to reject. The former-Celtic manager will also take heart from the performance of another midfielder in the game at Celtic Park on Saturday. John McGinn’s performance from midfield saw the youngster score twice in the enthralling fixture and Strachan should look to pair the two in-form midfielders along with Darren Fletcher to stabilise the side.
Scotland face Slovakia in a must win match on Thursday at Hampden and Gordon Strachan has a lot of selection issues with the latest injury news coming to his attention.
