After a fantastic weekend win against Hibernian at Hampden in the League Cup Semi-Final Brendan Rodgers made three changes to the side with Moussa Dembele, Tom Rogic and James Forrest coming in to start the game.
It was Aberdeen who had the first oppurtunity of the match when Graeme Shinnie shot from a distance only for Craig Gordon to gather the low effort. Shortly after this Shinnie again had a drilled effort from twenty-five yards saved by Craig Gordon.
A quarter of an hour into the game Celtic took the lead. Tom Rogic flicked the ball on to Moussa Dembele who put across a wonderful ball which Kieran Tierney smashed of the crossbar past Joe Lewis.
Aberdeen were all over the place after this and couldn’t seem to get a grip of the game. Though nothing can be taken away from Celtic who absolutely dominated the half. Tom Rogic came close with a couple of efforts as well as James Forrest.
Not long before the first-half drew to a close the Celts lead was doubled. Kieran Tierney made a thrilling run down the left-hand channel and whipped over a superb cross which Dembele tucked away beautifully.
Derek McInnes changed the shape of the Dons for the second-half in the hope of getting something from the game. Though, Celtic came out after the restart and were just as rampant. Celtic had loads of oppurtunities to make it three.
It was not long after the hour mark whsn the third goal was scored. Stuart Armstrong whipped in a great ball which Boyata drilled into the ground only for Dembele to nod the ball into the net.
After this Celtic shut up shop and eased to a comfortbale victory. Even though Aberdeen were very poor tonight, Celtic were very impressive and showed why they’re champions.
