VIRGIL VAN DIJK will play for Southampton reserves against Aston Villa today.
The former Celtic centre-half has been training on his own after demanding a transfer at the start of last month.
Van Dijk, 26, has been out of first-team action since sustaining an ankle injury on January 22.
The Dutch international had been linked with big-money moves to Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea throughout the summer with the Hoops expecting something in the region of £8million due to their sell-on deal.
Manager Mauricio Pellegrino said: “Virgil is coming from a long period of time without playing a game. This is my concern right now.
“He will play Monday in the reserve team. We try to help him to be ready to help the team.
“Virgil was training well this week. Now everything is normal.”
The Saints lost 2-0 at home to Watford at the weekend.
