ROSS McCORMACK is poised to join Melbourne City – because no-one else wanted him.
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce revealed he was unable to offload the Scotland striker who cost ex-gaffer Roberto Di Matteo £12million from Fulham just over a year ago.
The 31-year-old former Rangers and Motherwell frontman scored only three goals in 20 appearances before being shipped out on loan to Nottingham Forest last season.
McCormack was expected to join top-flight drop-outs Sunderland on a short-term deal during the summer, but Bruce insisted that a transfer was never close to being completed.
He said: “Nobody came in for him. Sunderland played at it, but it didn’t come through. Unfortunately, that’s where we were left.
“I was a bit shocked by it, but that’s the brutal reality of it. Nobody came for him, unless I missed them!”
McCormack is likely to agree a season-long loan contract with the Aussie A-League outfit this week.
