THE Rangers defensive duo of Declan John and Bruno Alves have been ruled out of tomorrow’s Glasgow Derby against Celtic as a result of injuries sustained versus Patrick Thistle midweek.
Alves, the veteran central defender, has added experience to the Ibrox ranks since arriving from Cagliari in the summer. However, the news that he will be missing in royal blue tomorrow will give supporters more anxiety ahead of the match. The 35-year-old has gone to Madrid to undergo specialist treatment on the calf injury.
Meanwhile, John had come into the side and provided cover for Lee Wallace, the club captain, who has already been ruled out for two months due to the recurrence of a groin problem. Now, Pedro Caixinha will have to look to Lee Hodson to go against Celtic’s right-flank and may have to recall Danny Wilson to fill in for Alves, after the ex-Hearts player was left out of the match squad on Tuesday.
Both players could prove to be massive losses for the club, who currently sit five points adrift of Celtic, in what has been dubbed a ‘must win’ for Pedro Caixinha’s side.
Celtic were 5-1 victors on their last visit to Ibrox in April. The game kicks off tomorrow at 12 o’clock and is the headline fixture on Sky Sports Football.
