IPSWICH boss Mick McCarthy believes the jury is in on Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner.

The former Ibrox double-act shared the goals in Ipswich’s 2-0 win over Brentford at Portman Road at the weekend.

And ex-Celtic defender McCarthy said: “Waghorn and Garner? They sound like a firm of solicitors, but they have been two good signings.

“They are doing everything I would expect of them and more.”

McCarthy revealed the frontmen cost a combined £1million to lure them from Pedro Caixinha’s outfit and Waghorn claimed his fifth goal in three outings while Garner netted his third in four Championship appearances.

The Tractor Boys’ gaffer also took time to praise defeated Brentford who conceded 10 minutes before the interval to Waghorn and six minutes after the break to his colleague to seal their fate.

He said: “I don’t know how they are bottom of the league with just one point.

“We got away with a few things in the first-half, but it was much better in the second and they didn’t threaten as much.”

It was ironic Waghorn and Garner were on target again – as was Barrie McKay in Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough – while Rangers fired blanks in the goalless draw with Hearts a week after being dumped 3-2 by Hibs at Ibrox.

Sportscene last night showed this graphic which illustrates the success in from to of goal the players Rangers have sold have enjoyed since they recently left the Ibrox club.
