FROZEN-OUT Scotland striker Ross McCormack has been given the boot by Aston Villa.
Boss Steve Bruce dumped the player from his squad for the pre-season tour of Germany and is ready to listen to offers for the former Rangers and Motherwell striker.
However, it looks as though the Midlands club will get nowhere near the £12million splashed by ex-gaffer Roberto Di Matteo a year ago.
The Italian spent massive money to lure the 30-year-old attacker to Villa from Fulham as he plotted a quickfire return to the top flight.
However, the move backfired spectacularly and Di Matteo was sacked after only 12 games.
McCormack netted a mere three goals before Bruce loaned him to Championship rivals Nottingham Forest where he claimed a solitary strike in seven appearances for Mark Warburton’s team.
The Glasgow-born forward still has three years to run of his £50,000-per-week contract.
He played during last week’s friendly defeat against Shrewsbury, but didn’t feature in the goalless draw against Walsall in midweek.
Bruce may consider a loan deal to remove part of his lucrative wages from the Villa pay-roll.
