McINNES POISED FOR TALKS IN USA

SUNDERLAND chief executive Martin Bain will fly to the USA today for contract talks with Derek McInnes.

The Aberdeen manager will be offered the vacant manager’s job after the resignation of fellow-Scot Davie Moyes following the Wearside club’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season.
McInnes was given permission to speak to the Black Cats after they agreed a compensation package with the Pittodrie outfit close to £1million for the 45-year-old coach.
His assistant Tony Docherty is also expected to join him at the Stadium of Light.

McInnes is currently on holiday with his family in Florida and will discuss personal terms with Bain.

Aberdeen confirmed yesterday: “Early this afternoon, Sunderland FC agreed to meet all the contractual obligations for both Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty and they have, reluctantly, been granted permission to speak with both of them about the vacant managerial position at Sunderland.”

The guessing game has now kicked off to see who will replace McInnes in the Dons dug-out.

Tommy Wright (St Johnstone), Derek Adams (Plymouth) and Jack Ross (St Mirren) appear to be among the frontrunners.
