CELTIC kicked off their pre-season tour with an easy win over BW Linz.
There were many first team regulars starting for the hoops with new bhoy Johnny Hayes making his debut.
Like most pre-season games there was no real incidents or talking points with the only objective being the players match fitness. Some Celtic players did look quite sharp with some decent football being played at times.
At the start of the second-half there was a complete turnaround of players with ten new players introduced including Brendan Rodgers son Anton getting a game due to injuries to Kristoffer Ajer and others.
The surface was extremely sticky with the temperature being quite humid but the Celtic players managed to adapt and play some decent football. A Celtic victory was always likely with incessant pressure on the Linz goalkeeper.
James Forrest tucked away on the half volley to put the Hoops ahead, late in the game.
These games are never very entertaining but it’s all about players fitness levels and match sharpness.
The Scottish Champions now look onwards to Rapid Vienna on Saturday afternoon. Rapid Vienna are a club Celtic have some history with and indeed some of the supporters around in the mid-eighties reckon that Celtic shouldn’t even play this team in a friendly match.
Not that the players of either team will know or care about any of that!
