ABERDEEN boss Derek McInnes will offer a bumper new deal to Jonny Hayes, who was a £600,000 target for Cardiff City last month.
The Pittodrie gaffer is determined to keep his current squad together and persuaded Graeme Shinnie to pledge his future to the club until 2019.
Now he hopes Republic of Ireland winger Hayes will join him.
The pacy wide-player was given a standing ovation as he was substituted late in the game against Dundee as the home support believed it was his last game for their favourites.
McInnes, though, was relieved the Welsh outfit didn’t come anywhere near his valuation of the 29-year-old with the Championship side’s manager Neil Warnock claiming he didn’t want to spend “silly money”.
The Dons chief said: “I’m hopeful that more will follow Graeme Shinnie’s lead by committing to longer.
“I think it’s also a huge boost for us that we’ve managed to get Jonny to stay with us.
“I think we should be grateful that the supporters are going to see Jonny Hayes running out again against Partick Thistle and doing his business for us.”
McInnes revealed negotiations with the flanker have been on-going, even though his current deal takes him to the summer of next year.
He added: “We’ve been in talks with Jonny and others for the last wee while, but I wouldn’t say it’s any closer to being resolved.
“It’s certainly nothing we’re going to announce today, tomorrow or whenever. I think on the back of Jonny staying it’s maybe been put into the spotlight a wee bit more.
“I’m hoping we can get some good news over the next few weeks.”
