NEIL LENNON admitted now is the time to strengthen Hibs, despite the team being eight points clear at the top of the Championship.
The Easter Road boss is eager to add at least one more player to his squad before the end of the transfer window tonight.
His hopes of re-signing Celtic midfielder Kris Commons after his recent loan spell appear to be fading while he has also been linked with a possible loan swoop for Scottish Cup Final hero Anthony Stokes, who is out of favour at Blackburn Rovers.
And Efe Ambrose, out of contract at Parkhead at the end of the season, has knocked back suggestions he will be rejoining his former Hoops gaffer. Ambrose is more likely to head to Blackburn Rovers today.
Lennon has signed winger Chris Humphrey and keeper Scott Gallacher this month, but insisted his squad remains “light” as he looks to seal the league title.
He said: “It could go right to the wire, but I would like to bring at least one more body in.
“Everyone tells me I’ve got great strength in depth, but the squad’s light.
“We had 19 fit players on Saturday, so a few injuries and we’re digging in to the Academy players.
“So, it would be important if we did bring another one in – but the right one, not just for the sake of bringing another body in.”
Stokes has only had four starts at Blackburn this season and could be tempted to make the move back to Easter Road for the THIRD time.
Stokes was the hero in the famous Scottish Cup win last season, scoring twice in the 3-2 final win over Rangers and he could be back in the Hibs line-up as they face Hearts in the next stage of their defence of the trophy that took over a century to win.
Commons, if a pay-off at Parkhead can be agreed today, could line-up in that same Hibs side.
It is going to be an interesting day ahead for the Hibs support.
