0

THE Rangers v Celtic game at Ibrox was UK digital television’s third most-watched programme on Hogmanay – despite also being shown on Sky Sports.

UK viewers watched the Hoops win 2-1 in a dramatic encounter with the champions coming back from a Kenny Miller opener to take all three points with goals from Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.

The encounter delivered a huge audience to the satellite channel, drawing in 565,000 viewers from when the coverage began at 11.30 before closing shortly after the match had ended.

It makes the New Year’s Eve game Scottish football’s most-viewed match on satellite since 2012.

Only two programmes on digital telly had better numbers. Liverpool’s EPL clash with Manchester City topped the table with 1.134million viewers, while Midsomer Murders came second with 647,000.

The Premiership match’s TV figure was up from the last league derby which clashed with Manchester City v Manchester United and was reported to have been watched by just under 500,000 fans.
