RANGERS boss Mark Warburton has stepped up his bid for winger Jota Peleteiro, who is due to return to Brentford after an 11-month loan spell with Spanish outfit Eibar.
The Ibrox gaffer signed the 25-year-old attacker for the Bees from Celta Vigo for £1.3million in August 2014.
Jota moved to Eibar in a temporary transfer in January and helped them win a place in La Liga.
However, he has now dropped out of the first team reckoning and is ready to rejoin Brentford six months ahead of schedule.
He is out of contract in the summer and Warburton hopes to lure him to Ibrox in next month’s transfer window.
The Rangers manager, meanwhile, has been linked with the vacant England Under-21 post which has been vacated with Gareth Southgate’s promotion to the full international team.
And bad boy Joey Barton, the Glasgow club’s marquee signing in the summer, has made a return to Burnley just a month after leaving Ibrox after his blow-up with Warburton and team-mate Andy Halliday following the 5-1 defeat against Celtic.
The midfielder has not kicked a ball since Moussa Dembele hit a hat-trick as Brendan Rodgers’ side ran amok at Parkhead in September, but is hopeful a six-month deal at Turf Moor will get his career back on track.
