‘HEARTS OPEN TALKS FOR NEW BOSS’

HEARTS are believed to have opened official talks with Newcastle United to acquire Ian Cathro as their new head coach.

The 30-year-old Scot is assistant to Rafael Benitez, but started his coaching career at Dundee United under current Tynecastle Director of Football Craig Levein. maxresdefault
It is understood Cathro is the preferred target to replace Robbie Neilson, who left the club to join League One side Milton Keynes Dons last week.

The Edinburgh outfit are hoping to appoint a replacement to allow as much time as possible to prepare for Saturday’s game with Rangers at Ibrox.

Neilson quit Hearts, along with his assistant Stevie Crawford, to take over from Karl Robinson at Milton Keynes.

Robinson left the role in November – he has since joined Charlton – and the Dons currently sit in a lowly 19th place in the table.

Ironically, the new boss Neilson watched the club battle out a goalless FA Cup draw against Charlton at the weekend.
