ACCIES BOSS DEFENDS ALI AFTER HEARTS ATTACK

0
HAMILTON boss Martin Canning has defended Ali Crawford after criticism from Hearts gaffer Robbie Neilson over a tackle on Jamie Walker.
The Tynecastle coach claimed it was a “terrible” challenge that deserved a red card with referee Steven MacLean only booking the midfielder in the 3-3 draw at New Douglas Park on Monday.
Canning said: “When you watch it back, it’s clear Ali wins the ball.

“He goes aggressively to win the ball and there’s definitely a jumping motion, but it’s not as bad a tackle as it’s being made out to be.

“He’s on the ground and Walker gets up straight away. Ali hasn’t gone in to hurt him, he has gone to win the ball and that’s exactly what he has done.

“He has gone physically and aggressively for the ball, that was my view at the time and my opinion hasn’t changed.

“A lot has been made of the tackle, but it’s not in Ali’s game to go in and hurt someone.

“Everybody who knows Ali knows that’s not how he plays the game, usually he’s on the receiving end.”
