Scottish Cup semi final draw: Rangers to face Celtic

Following the conclusion of this weekend’s Scottish Cup quarter final ties, the draw for the semi final took place and there was no repeat of the quarter final draw farce.

Rangers will play Celtic while Dundee United await the winner of the replay between Hibernian and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Cup holders Inverness Caledonian Thistle left it late in the 1-1 draw against Hibernian on Sunday to secure a replay – to be played on 16th March.

Championship side Rangers romped past Dundee 4-0 in Saturday’s early afternoon kick off and that was followed by a five goal thriller between Dundee United and Ross County – with the Tannadice side triumphing.

Scottish champions Celtic put their league slump behind them to beat Greenock Morton 3-0 to make sure there was no repeat of the 2013 League Cup defeat.

It will be the second time in two years that Celtic and Rangers will face one another, with Celtic winning 2-0 in what was a one-sided encounter in last season’s League Cup semi final thanks to goals from Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons.

Ties to be played on the weekend of the 16th and 17th April.
