Celtic to play high-profile International Champions Cup v Barcelona

Celtic have been announced as one of the teams in the high-profile pre-season International Champions Cup and will play against Leicester City, Barcelona and Inter Milan.

If Celtic win the Premiership title for a fifth year in a row, they will play the second round of Champions League qualification in July, with the first leg scheduled for the 12th or 13th of the month, and the second leg on the 19th or 20th.

The Parkhead side’s first game in the lucrative pre-season tournament will be against current Premier League leaders Leicester on July 23rd at Celtic Park – in the midst of the club’s Champions League qualification campaign.

And seven days later will face Barcelona in Dublin on July 30th – between the two legs of the third round of Champions League qualification.

A third game – against Inter Milan has also been announced by a date is yet to be confirmed.

Speaking following the announcement, Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, said: “We are delighted to be invited to take part in such a unique and prestigious international tournament and join together with the other great names in world football in what we know will be a fantastic sporting occasion.

“Celtic is proud to enjoy its own global profile and we are sure our involvement with the biggest names in the game will only increase interest in the Club on a global stage.

“It is magnificent news that our supporters in Scotland and Ireland will be able to enjoy such exciting matches and we are sure our participation will be warmly welcomed by our fans who will look forward to Celtic meeting such a high calibre of opposition in Barcelona, Inter Milan and Leicester City.”

With question marks surrounding Ronny Deila’s future at Celtic – it is anyone’s guess as to who will be Celtic manager come the tournament.
