Aberdeen buoyed by the return of Jonny Hayes

Aberdeen have been handed a massive boost with the return of Jonny Hayes from injury to face Partick Thistle on Tuesday.

Hayes had picked up a hamstring injury in the defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle last month, but has now returned to full fitness to help Derek McInnes’ side chase down league leaders Celtic.

Speaking to the press ahead of the Thistle game, McInnes said: “He’s been training the last few days. He’s trained brilliantly as well. He looks ready to go and delighted to have him back.”

If the Dons secure a win over Thistle they will move within a point of Celtic, who will coincidentally play Thistle on Saturday.

McInnes added: “We’re not daft, we all know the importance of winning and that’s all we’re looking for. I don’t buy into all this psychological stuff, outside pressures and all the rest of it.

“For me it’s just the game and we put enough demand on the players to win each and every game anyway. We want the players to play the way they train and hopefully we can be good enough on the night to win the game.”
