Just as today’s weekend matches kicked off across Scottish football, it was announced that Scottish Sun sports journalist Ronnie Mackay had sadly passed away at the age of 41.
Ronnie had worked for the Scottish Sun for over 15 years and was a regular face at games and press conferences.
His A to Z column was a regular feature and he kindly donated a few copies of his book of the same title to Scotzine a number of years back for competitions.
Sadly both myself and Ronnie came to loggerheads over a number of issues, clashing both in a football sense as well personal with some harsh words enjoyed.
In November, following more words exchanged I contacted Ronnie to apologise for my comments over the past few months and to put it all behind us. Ronnie agreed and I wished him well as he battled his health issues.
However, despite knowing the extent of his health issues over the past few months, it was a complete shock to hear of him sadly passing away today.
My thoughts go out to his wife and young son, as well as his friends and work colleagues at this sad time.
