Kilmarnock line up Billy Davies to replace Gary Locke

Kilmarnock are to open talks with Billy Davies over the next few days in the hope of appointing him as their new manager.

The former Motherwell and Nottingham Forest manager, who has been out of the game since being sacked by Forest in March 2014, has been earmarked by the Ayrshire side as the man to succeed Gary Locke who quit following the 1-0 defeat to Hamilton on Saturday.

Lee McCulloch has taken control of first-team affairs following Locke’s departure and if Davies is appointed as the Ayrshire side’s new manager his first game in charge will be against former side Rangers at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Killie are second bottom in the Premiership having just won two of their last 13 league matches and with the other teams around them having several games in hand – the threat of relegation is hanging over Rugby Park like a dark cloud.
