Women’s Premier League champions Glasgow City have announced the signing of Scotland international keeper Gemma Fay from Celtic.
Fay, who is the most capped player of all time for Scotland with 188 appearances, will be named City’s number one keeper for the new season ahead following the departure of Lee Alexander and Megan Cunningham – the latter joining Celtic last month.
Following the signing of the Scotland captain, City head coach Scott Booth said: “I was delighted Gemma decided to join us at City. Replacing good goalkeepers is often tricky but in Gemma we not only have Scotland’s No1 but a player with fantastic experience and a brilliant football mentality.”
Fay, speaking to the official City website, added: “It was a tough decision to leave a club like Celtic, however after speaking to Scott and Laura, I knew it was the right decision for me as a player to sign for Glasgow City. I am looking forward to the challenge of defending the League, Scottish and League Cup titles in an ever increasing competitive environment. The chance to play Champions League once again is something that would excite any player. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Fay had been at Celtic Ladies since 2009 following spells with Aberdeen, Ayr United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Leeds United and two stints with Hibernian.
Glasgow City will be going for their ten league title in a row this season.
