Gary Locke quits as Kilmarnock manager

Gary Locke has quit as manager of Ayrshire side Kilmarnock after Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to fellow strugglers Hamilton Accies.

Locke was installed as temporary caretaker manager of the Premiership side in February 2015 and in April of the same year he was appointed the club’s permanent manager.

But with Killie second bottom spot, 11 points ahead of bottom side Dundee United – who have two games in hand over the Ayrshire side – it was inevitable that Locke’s position at Kilmarnock would end with him leaving or being sacked.

First team coach Lee McCulloch has been appointed as temporary manager and his first game in charge would be against Rangers in the Scottish Cup – a side he spent eight years with – unless a managerial appointment is made this week.
