SPFL seal deal with pre-payment energy firm to sponsor League Cup

The SPFL have announced that Utilita Energy are the new sponsors of the Scottish League Cup with the deal running out until the summer of 2016.

The deal worth around £200,000 was announced at Hampden Park on Wednesday afternoon.

However, the deal with the pre-payment energy firm has already been overshadowed by the energy regulator fining the company £560,000 for preventing 40,000 of their customers from switching energy suppliers over a five year period.

The news was announced on the same day as the SPFL secured their deal with Utilita and is not the news that the football governing body wanted to be associated with.

The company will pay £450,000 to charity and a further £110,000 to be refunded to customers affected by their breach of energy regulations.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster, on the sponsorship deal, said: “We are delighted to announce Utilita as our new presenting partner for the Scottish League Cup. As an ambitious and growing business, Utilita is a perfect fit for the competition.”
