Scottish FA clear Scottish Cup red card duo & Ciftci

The Scottish FA have announced that the red cards shown to Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk and Dundee United midfielder Paul Paton have been rescinded, meaning that both players will be available for Sunday’s League Cup Final at Hampden Park.

Both players were shown red cards by referee Craig Thomson on the advice of his linesman Graham Chambers – with Paton sent off in a case of mistake identity when it was Callum Butcher involved in the fracas.

Nadir Ciftci was issued with a notice of complaint earlier this week for alleged violent conduct following video footage showing the Turkish striker kicking Celtic captain Scott Brown in the head after a strong tackle from the Scotland midfielder.

In a separate hearing the Scottish FA passed a judgement of not proven in Ciftci’s case – a second not proven verdict in the past few weeks. Despite being cleared, Ciftci will miss Sunday’s cup final after picking up a booking in the semi final of the competition.
