Ryan McGowan loses red card appeal

Dundee United defender Ryan McGowan will serve a one match ban against Ross County next weekend after his red card against Celtic, during their Scottish Cup quarter-final replay, was upheld.

The defender was sent off late on in the second half following a challenge on Celtic midfielder Liam Henderson.

McGowan was facing a two match ban, but United appealed the sending off allowing him to play in the league clash between the two sides which the Tannadice side lost 3-0.

However on Thursday a Scottish FA judicial panel rejected the Tannadice side’s claims of wrongful dismissal and a two match ban has been imposed on the Australian international.

That means McGowan will miss next weekend’s clash against Ross County and the first Scottish Cup match of next season.
