hibsladiesduoHibernian Ladies have announced the signing of Celtic and Scotland duo Chloe Arthur and Heather Richards ahead of the new SWPL season.

19-year-old Chloe Arthur, speaking exclusively to the official Hibernian website, said: “I needed a new challenge and I felt that Hibs were the team to motivate and develop me. There were offers from other clubs but I never spoke to any of them; I knew from the moment I spoke to Chris [Roberts] that I wanted to come to Hibs.

“The club knows what it takes to be successful and I felt coming here, knowing so many of the girls from the national set-up, that it was the right environment for me to push on. I needed to get out of my comfort zone because I had been with Celtic for six years, which made it a hard decision to leave the club.

“It’s a real bonus that Heather [Richards] is joining Hibs at the same time because we are really good friends and know each other so well.”

Richards, who travels along the M8 to Hibs with Arthur, added: “I’m delighted to have signed for Hibs and I feel it is the right move for me at this point in my career. Like Chloe, I had offers from other clubs and it was a hard decision, but I know I’ve made the right choice to come here.

“This is a big year for me and the club. We want to put real pressure on [Glasgow] City this season and challenge for the league and cup competitions. Having been in a few of the national training camps, I want to push on again and get more game time in the Scotland A squad.”

Manager Chris Roberts, who led Hibernian to a third placed finish, said: “We are delighted to welcome Chloe and Heather to Hibernian Ladies. I’ve enjoyed watching their progress over recent years and look forward to working with them. Their talent will add to what is a very exciting group of players at the club.

“It’s testament to the club that we are able to attract players of Chloe and Heather’s quality. We also hope to help both players achieve a regular place in the Scotland National Team.”
