Dons quartet sign new deals to stay at Pittodrie

aberdeenAberdeen have given their fans an early Christmas present after agreeing contract extensions with Niall McGinn and Adam Rooney.

Former Derry City and Celtic midfielder McGinn has extended his existing deal by one year, keeping the Northern Irishman at Pittodrie until 2017.

Rooney, meanwhile, has signed a three and a half year extension and will keep him at Derek McInnes’ side until 2018. Rooney, who is the club’s top scorer this campaign, signed on a free transfer in January last year from Oldham Athletic.

Aberdeen have also extended deals with youngsters Lawrence Shankland and Scott McKenna until 2017.

Speaking to the official Aberdeen website, manager Derek McInnes, said: “Adam and Niall are key players within the team while both Lawrence and Scott have the potential to develop into first team regulars in the not too distant future.

“I’ve always said that, while we’ve enjoyed a fruitful 2014, there is still a great deal of work to be done and securing players, who we want to be part of our journey, is vital if we want to achieve the success that everyone at the club craves.”
