Ayr United sack manager Mark Roberts

League One strugglers Ayr United have sacked manager Mark Roberts with immediate effect after a board meeting today.

The news was issued via a statement posted on the official club website, it read: “At a specially convened board meeting today, the club have released Mark Roberts with immediate effect.

“In doing so the club would like to express their appreciations towards Mark. He has been with the club for 6 years as a player and manager and the club, board and chairman would like to wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Roberts replaced Brian Reid as manager on 15th May 2012, but Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Stenhousemuir was United’s fifth straight defeat and the board took action to try to safeguard their League One survival.

United are currently second bottom of League One eight points clear of bottom side Stirling Albion, with both teams meeting this Saturday at Somerset Park.
